The Avoca Beach Picture Theatre is a family owned business which, for generations, has continued to bring quality films to Avoca Beach’s visitors and discerning audiences. Constructed in 1951 by brothers Norman and Mervyn Hunter, the 60 year old business continues to thrive in the hands of the Hunters and continues to offer the best films for its audiences.

And as a way to offer the best films for every film lover’s taste, Norman and Beth Hunter, continue to provide different events and themes at the Avoca Beach Picture Theatre. Whatever your taste, you can come to any of their cultural evenings or, if you want, you can even hold your own event, like weddings, conferences and fundraisers.

Fantastic Summer Lineup

Throughout the months of December to January, the Avoca Beach Picture Theatre is holding the Summer Moments event with a huge lineup of great films to please audiences of every age and taste.

There’s Melancholia, the European Film Awards 2011 Best Film. The beautiful film is by Lars von Triers. So if you’re up for a good time watching an artsy award winning film, then this is the one for you.

For the young ones and old ones alike, there’s Dolphin Tale, starring Winter, played by herself. The movie is about an injured dolphin and the people who come together to save the dolphin’s life. This is a good watch for the whole family.

Another popular one is Eye of the Storm. If you want some edge of your seat entertainment, the Eye of the Storm is going to be your cup of tea.

Satyagraha , produced by the New York Met Opera, is an opera by Philip Glass about the unforgettable Gandhi. The film tells Gandhi’s story when he developed his stance on non-violence during his early years in South Africa.

Ides of March, on the other hand, is an immensely relevant and completely timely movie which stars George Clooney, Phillip Seymour-Hoffman, Ryan Gosling, Paul Giamatti and Evan Rachel Wood, just to name a few from this all-star cast.

The other good thing about catching a film at the Avoca Beach Picture Theatre is that you don’t just go there to watch movies. There are a lot of things that you can do at the theatre, you can just enjoy a great cup of coffee at the Theatre’s terrace. You can also buy some of your friends a couple of Theatre Lover Passes (you can even choose to give your friend a glass of wine to go with that film as well).

The award-winning Theater has prided itself in giving viewers a one-of-a-kind movie experience. Why don’t you drop by the place and see for yourself just what everyone is talking about? You’re sure to have a good time.
